ouchthats@HN414 ok; asking! I love the Amarna depictions of the Aten with all the sunbeams ending in hands. Does that sunbeam-hand motif predate atenism, or is it original to that period? Or any suggestions where to look to learn more about the sunbeam hands!
@ouchthats I don't know for sure, need to check my sources which I didn't do yet for a lack of time, but I do remember mentioned somewhere that similar depictions of the sun with sunbeam hands have been created during the reign of Akhenaten's father Amenhotep Nebmaatre. Atenism was not something that came out of nothing, and during his Sed festival celebration Amenhotep already identified himself with the Sun.
