Plackets are stitched in, darts are made, and shoulders attached for the summery silk shirt prototype. Glue basting on slippery fabrics is my new favorite thing. #sewing
@elfkin Yay for glue basting!! Pretty awesome, isn't it?
@EllenInEdmonton OMG I feel like such a fool for not trying it sooner. It really speeds things up!
@elfkin
Haha, it just sounded WAY too good to be true when I first heard about it but it was an essential for getting the ribbons onto my ribbon skirt! No way that I could have sewed them or ironed them on straight any other way.
@elfkin ah, I had forgotten your post about glue basting when I first saw the photo of this fabric. That sounds much less painful.
@elfkin So what kind of glue did you use?
@WorstedSkeins As I’m just doing prototypes right now and figured it wouldn’t hurt, I simply grabbed the nearest Elmer’s glue stick from my desk. It works a treat!
@WorstedSkeins @elfkin
I'm not sure what he used but I just bought an ordinary white glue stick and it's worked out wonderfully! No residue afterwards and no problem with sewing the glued pieces. Give it a try if you have one, as well as some scrap fabric and/or ribbons.
