Apollo would be proud of both - sh.itjust.works

They are honestly both good, but can’t beat the native ios experience.

This is me, and I’m cool with it! I like jumping into both on a daily basis to see how each progresses.
Voyager (wefwef) is better because PWA
And because its UI is a million times better. I don’t understand how people could see them both and go with Memmy.
because it’s not a blatant clone, and it’s a native app. I’m sure it’s good but i don’t want to go via safari every time i access Lemmy and it’s just a copy of apollo.
Also the gestures are kinda glitchy and is slow compared to memmy.
Huh that’s interesting, it’s waaaayyy faster than Memmy for me. I know what you mean about glitchy. Annoying, but that’s the WebKit bug, and I’ve learned to just wait a second before scrolling down the feed after returning from a post. I don’t even think about it anymore, but I could see how that could bother some people.

Yep, it’s faster and it shows more posts than Memmy does for me. Logged in on the same account Memmy shows less posts from across the fediverse for whatever reason. Voyager shows everything I see on the desktop version of Lemmy.

Also a native app version with haptics and notifications is in the works for Voyager if that’s your kind of thing.

I don’t see how it being a clone is a negative. All I want is Apollo, and this is pretty damn close, so I’m happy. But to each their own!
Different folks, different strokes¯_(ツ)_/¯
Different folks, different hardware
Although that has its benefits, it still has scrolling issues for me :/
This could be for many different reasons like older hardware or a less powerful video card in your mobile. Android or iOS?
I have scrolling issues on voyager as well on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I’m sure it will get better with time. This bug has also been a major nuisance.
Unable to scroll after swiping back to previous page · Issue #18 · aeharding/voyager

Occasionally when returning to the home feed after opening a post, I’m unable to scroll until I switch to a different pane (search or settings etc)

Yeah, that sounds frustrating. I’m lucky I’m on an older model iPhone that runs Voyager as well as it did Apollo. All in time

I use wefwef and it’s my first time learning about memmy.

What are the advantages of PWA?

I like wefwef but the scrolling does get me from time to time.

There are many, depending on your point of view. Voyager PWA is nice because when you dismiss it, it can’t run on its own in the background like a traditional app can, so I prefer PWAs over true apps whenever possible for this specific reason because I can control when the app is using the internet. If Voyager were an actual app, it could connect to my instance when it’s not running or it’s dismissed when I don’t want it to, like when I’m not on my VPN, for example. PWAs have no access to your contacts and other things that apps request (or sometimes demand) access to, not to mention the info Apple or Google provides to app developers when you agree to an app’s EULA. I could list a whole bunch of reasons
It’s also cool how it can update frequently and fast. It seems to get small updates most days right now.
And you know no App Store added any code to the app. The benefits are countless
All I’m missing is push notifications
Voyager and notifications - Lemmy.world

Voyager just asked me on iOS if I want to allow it to give notifications? What’s going on in the background here? Does this mean the PWA is fetching data when dismissed or using some sort of push?

I’m not seeing it in my settings and haven’t received the prompt but here’s hoping it reaches me soon!
Wish I knew why. Good luck and update your device
I’m up to date 🤙
My main issue with wefwef is that I can’t directly save an image to the camera roll
This is not an issue for me
Works fine for me. Did you deny it some permission somewhere?

Memmy is fantastic as is the developer.

Mlem dev here—couldn’t agree more about Gavin, he’s a fantastic guy. Gave us some helpful tips about getting through App Store review. Massive props to him for getting that app up and running so fast.
I use Mlem as well - glad we’re all part of such a great community!
I just want to say I love the friendly “competition” between you guys. It just results in better and better products. I have both and I use them equally. Great work on Mlem, and thanks for opening up the beta signup when I asked a couple of days ago. lol
Not sure how I feel about mommy quite yet. Bob dole.
I’ve mostly moved to Memmy, but for whatever reason Wefwef keeps reinstalling itself and I can’t figure out how to get it to stop

Mostly Voyager for me because it’s almost a 1:1 clone of what I know and love.

But I have Memmy installed too and sometimes use that instead with no particular rhyme or reason.

Self hosting it myself, love it!
I’m sticking with Mlem for now, though they’re all 99% the same
Might as well ask here. I am waiting on Sync for Lemmy to be released, and more importantly reach a non-alpha/beta release. But for now I am also down to try out others. Are there any that are able to handle Android tablets correctly? At the moment I have only used Jerboa. It is great on my phones, but it looks like the old days of apps for Android being forced to run on early tablets on my Galaxy Tab S8+. It just stretches out and feels off in both landscape and portrait orientations.
I have no clue if it has tablet support, but I like Liftoff much better than Jerboa
Installed and seems to have the same issue. But I will keep it installed along with Connect and any others I come across. I like to jump between different apps over time to see how they evolve and compare to each other. Thanks for sharing it!
Connect is working great for me
I was on jerboa before and liked it. However I tried connect and it’s much better. Jerboa had a lot of bugs still. And the UI is smoother, cleaner and better functionality on connect.

Installed and it does seem to be smooth, so I do thank you for pointing it out! I am beginning to think what I am looking for is more an issue with Lemmy. The thing I liked about Sync was the ability to have multiple columns of posts in the card format. So each post in a community doesn’t just span the whole width of the screen (which is much more dramatic in landscape). Also keeps it easy to scroll more posts and preview images being smaller, but not as tiny as the super small list view.

That all being said, I do think Connect is very clean and will be using it more for the moment. It is good to see attention from devs being put towards Lemmy.

Maybe something has come up with it and I’m not privy, I primarily use Voyager because PWA support, but Avelon seems pretty good too

Meh, you sure can.

I have memmy and still prefer wefwef

My only hate for Memmy is the massive vote buttons on the right. Why the hell are they so big?

Settings\Content\Show Comment Actions.

You’re welcome!

That and being unable to swipe-collapse a comment tree. The right-left swipe only being reply (when there’s already that giant reply button) there is certainly a design choice.
Is like Linux distros.
Is this IOS only?
No clue about memmy but WefWef aka Voyager is also available on android as a Web app.

If you want a good Android Lemmy client app, get Connect.

It blows Jerboa and liftoff out of the water.

It’s even getting updates once or twice a week!

Also using connect!

Just waiting for Sync to get released tho.

Was like "oh cool, gonna try this connect app’, only to realize I was reading this comment on Connect. So many apps, man.

Jokes aside I’m loving that there’s so many different clients.

mlmym.org for me

This is awesome. Though mlmym.org does not have any impressum, so I googled it. It should be the instance run by the creator but my mobile device I am currently using does not show me the entire certificate details.

I note this because one should be aware that this has implications regarding security.

Though the creator chose the correct licensing, works under his real name and the code looks good, too.

github.com/rystaf/mlmym I did not spot any data gathering things in my fly-through. He gives all the things needed to deploy an own instance and omit this concern.

Bravo!

As a wefwef Voyager user, I was like “What’s a memmy?” but I see it’s IOS only… :(

Imagine touting the benefits of an open, decentralized, user-centric platform, and ONLY releasing your app for it on the most closed, centralized, corporate mobile operating system.

Not sure if this is hypocrisy or a lack of self awareness or what, but memmy is a joke for doing this

The app is like, brand new… u just hating today
On a Friday too… they need to chill 😂
It’s almost as if the developer likely owns the phone and simply wants a native app for it?
So all the apple users should just stick to reddit… What’s the logic behind your reply?
