Hi mastodon! With the collapse of twitter I've lost much of my reach for finding clients 😔

I'm a disabled artist & commissions are my primary source of income, and I just contacted the last people on my queue today—which means after I finish their commissions I won't have any further income

@lunalove Most all artists I know have been trying to find a new place to post to, but a lot of them just don't quite know where to go unfortunately. It's hard to set up on a new platform, especially when not everyone you already know moves to the same platforms, as it leaves people unsure what platforms to invest in 😔

@scharlieze In my experience, the audience that I had has left the site—I've had a steady stream of clients for the past two years, but following Musk's acquisition it has been dwindling and ran out for the first time this month and engagement on my tweets has drastically dropped. This is my lived reality, twitter is no longer working for me, and the same goes for other artists I know.

@harrie you should try blue check for a month, its realy boosting impression and will benefit artist . Mastodon has very small mdau and its heavily focused on politics

@Crab22 I'm not seeing any of this activity, personally. Prior to the acquisition I had a steady stream of clients for two years (by and large coming from twitter), and for the first time this month my queue ran out. Engagement on my tweets has dropped drastically, and so has my reach. Whoever is on twitter still is neither my audience nor the audience of the artists I know and have spoken to. It's no longer the same website and no longer works for me.

@greyscale I'm more than happy to do furry art! I don't get a lot of commissions from furries as humanoids are more my area of expertise so I'm limited for examples, but humans aren't the only thing I can draw!

@harrie @bartholin Many artist can also be found on Vero True Social. I don't call myself an artist but from experience I can tell that Vero delivers better engagement than asocial media platforms.

@harrie remember that people can follow hashtags here, for example any* post tagged #\furryart (without the slash) will end up in my feed, because I follow that tag. So using hashtags is important, you don't just reach people who actively click the hashtag, but also those who passively follow it!

*subject to those posts actually federating to my server in the first place, which is a whole other topic

Seen some arty folk worrying about income now that they've lost audiences from other sites. The fediverse has always been great at supporting indie artists, and there's the #CommissionsOpen tag that anyone posting about their comms should use - but someone suggested a commission day, so how about once a month (I may need some poking to remember!) I put out a call for people to reply with their commissions info in a thread, and you can also tag #CommissionsDay ? Let's start today! ⬇️
