I'll be flying to #IM703Arizona in October. First time flying to a tri. IRONMAN recommends https://www.tribiketransport.com/.
It costs about as much to ship with them as it would to buy a bike shipping kit (and I get free checked bags, via airline status) so it's down to convenience. And look what I found in Tribike's T&C’s.

What possible reason could they have for "prohibiting" #AirTags on shipping a multi-thousand dollar bike? There's no "security risk” or "safety risk”, that's a straight-up lie.

TriBike Transport - Fully Assembled Bike Transport

TriBike Transport ships many triathlon & cycling events around the world, including IRONMAN triathlon, USA Triathlon Events & many more.

The second paragraph also suggests Tribike will *break into my bike box* to "disable or remove" my AirTag if they "detect" it.

I would stay far, far away from this company. I wonder if IRONMAN actually knows what kind of people they're associating with.

#TriathleteProbs

I've emailed the company to see if this is really their policy or, to paraphrase the general counsel of the 1974 Cleveland Browns [1], some asshole is writing stupid policies on their website.

I'm guessing these people also require passwords to be changed every month but don't allow pasting. I guess I'm better off knowing than trusting them without being aware.
@smartwatermelon wasn't this the subject of a whole thing about people getting stalked a while back? I don't follow apple news

@finn If you (not actually you, the general you) dropped an airtag on your estranged partner's car, you could track them. So apple added "hey there's an airtag near you that's not registered to you" alert.

I bet this company is tired of their drivers complaining about those alerts. Nobody is stalking a truck full of bikes, but the people who own the bikes sure have a valid reason to track where they're going.

@rmd1023 see my follow-ups. They doubled down on it claiming safety. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
