Personally, and not being one from the ever-pathetic 'russkiy mir', the only russian I'd learn — until a few more accidentally learnt grunts well after my teens — was 'ruki vehr'... Thanks grandpa, for sharing all that you or anyone really should ever need to know about russia!

I'll probably never be totally comfortable seeing kyrillics, but before (or while) visiting Ukraine I'm totally going pick up some #Ukrainian.

Cyrillic is not that hard to learn. I heard good things about this site: https://www.ukrainianlanguage.org.uk/read/reference/alphabet.htm
But I have to correct you. That phrase you've learned is better transliterated as 'ruki vverh'.

I mean, how do you get them to say 'loaf' without first engaging in some unwelcome small talk..? 🤔
