Uh, who's "we," mediaman? It's journalists who keep listening to and promoting Musk's blatherings. Try stopping....

Why do we listen to tech moguls like Elon Musk? https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/07/17/elon-musk-technology-leaders-influence/

Why do we listen to tech moguls like Elon Musk?

Tech giants, keep your opinions to yourselves.

The Washington Post
@jeffjarvis I agree. We would not have that problem, if the people would have better media literacy and education over all.
@jeffjarvis I think some people are attracted to his erratic and eccentric behavior. #Musk is "allowed" to insert himself into every topic because he will say something so bizarre people will talk about him. It's free marketing. There's a false equivalency between "rich" and "smart". #Musk barely reaches "clever". His reality distortion field is failing - fast.

@jeffjarvis

I don't.

-----
I only want him to give his money to the people that do the work, so they can succeed (e.g. space, batteries). Other than that, he provides no value to me.

@jeffjarvis The author exhibits part of the problem he’s bemoaning—-taking as gospel truth the mythology around billionaires like Musk. Musk didn’t revolutionize jack. The scientists and engineers did. He bought into those companies, slapped his face on them, and used PR to say he did everything. He’s like his mentor, Trump, who isn’t a real estate developer, just a name slapper.
@Deglassco @jeffjarvis
Very true too often. It is sloppy or lazy reporting (or both) to repeat statements which perpetuate such claims.
@Deglassco @jeffjarvis Agreed. If #Musk is such a "genius" coder, why hasn't he solved his code problems yet? Posting inane things, making 420 jokes, and inserting his useless opinion everywhere seems to be prime function.

@Deglassco @jeffjarvis

Came here to say exactly this! At *best* he has contributed money (usually someone else’s money), to these companies. He’s not now, nor has he ever been some kind of genius.

Also: “It remains to be seen if he can move past cleverness and make Twitter a better platform.” No, dude…he’s never going to make Twitter a better platform. If you’re waiting for THAT to happen, you’re going to be waiting a long, long time.

@jeffjarvis bold coming from a paper owned by a tech mogul (Bezos).

@jeffjarvis I'm willing to accept that Zuck, Jack are media moguls...they built their legacy.

Musk simply bought his way in.

Doesn't mean we should listen to any of them, but Musk isn't even in the category

@jeffjarvis I don’t listen to Muscovich. What little I do see of his quotes I see as a warning of what to avoid.

@jeffjarvis

No one I respect listens to him...

But if these orgs still get clicks from "outrage viewing" (on any topic), that gives them more excuses to keep publishing b.s. articles and opinions.

One solution is for people to just take screenshots of drivel, and even ask people to not read the articles unless they really need to.

I've made it a point to only link to the real investigative reporting that these outlets still sometimes manage to do.

@jeffjarvis About time for some self examination, @wsj et.al. Please stop.
