Tetsuo!!!! 35 years ago today, the groundbreaking #anime, Akira (1988), was released in Japan. It would go into limited release in the US in 1989. July 16, 1988 is also the date Tokyo is destroyed, as seen at the beginning of the film. #80s #80smovie #AKIRA #boomtownpodcast

When i first saw Akira on TV it was almost mind blowing.

Now i have it on DVD and there are even comics books as well as a there was a magazine.

The next one was "Ghost in the Shell" questioning the boundaries between humans and cyborgs.

Japanese animation has a couple of really great films and series.
