The best way to improve #TunnelTops would be to destroy the freeway next to it.

I wanted to like this park but the roar of traffic destroys any sense of chill, which is probably why it always seems half empty.

It exists to greenwash a freeway that shouldn’t have been built. https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/presidio-tunnel-tops-park-18176192.php

SF's Presidio Tunnel Tops park is expanding with new green space

San Francisco's Tunnel Tops park is expanding. Here's what the new $23 million addition to the Presidio green space will look like.

San Francisco Chronicle
@scott They should change the name, Tunnel Top belongs to the bar.
@lmc @scott Maybe in compensation the bar should have exclusive rights to sell beer at the park.
@jef @lmc Rename it Anchor Park, that’s available now. (Too soon?)
@scott @jef @lmc Too late! (for selling beer in a Goonies-esque bid to Save the Brewery).
@neuralgraffiti @scott @jef I don' think the people at Tunnel Top (bar) would want to go out into the sunlight at the park.
@scott getting rid of parking is good though. I’m just not sure where the 30 Stockton will turn around if that parking lot is converted to parkland.
@BruceHalperin @scott Sounds like there will be new parking in a different spot:
> Construction begins next month with the demolition of a one-story commissary wing along Mason Street. That space will be turned into parking. Once that is done, work on Outpost Meadow should begin.

@BruceHalperin @scott Maybe the gray area south of the meadow will remain as the bus stop? Don't know.

I wonder if Sports Basement will have to build a new entrance on the west or north side.

@scott @jef it will. The article mentioned something about it being reconfigured to provide about as much parking as it does now, which sucks, but less asphalt is still better.
