when Threads launched, a number of right wing accounts with a history of posting misinformation on other platforms were flagged with a warning label informing users that they “repeatedly posted false information”

however, it appears Threads has now removed these labels

a Meta spokesperson told Donald Trump Jr. that his account was flagged in “error” and that it’s since “been fixed”

Threads backtracks flagging right-wing users for spreading disinformation

Regardless, right-wing Twitter users already hate Threads.

Mashable

@MattBinder Oh nooooo. Who would have ever guessed that this would have happened? /sarcasm

I mean, even just a warning isn't that big a thing. The people likely to follow Don Jr. are also the sort who would think this was actual censorship and that this means they should follow him harder.

@MattBinder
Same people, same garbage, different location.
@MattBinder damn, for a split second I thought they had done something right

@alexmorse @MattBinder

Even stopped clocks are right twice a day, for a split second.

@MattBinder

😂 Tells you all you need to know about Zuckerberg and his ilk.

#JustAnotherRottenBillionaire

@MattBinder Well now I’ll let my Threads account languish. Not quite ready to delete my Instagram account just yet. I prefer it here on #Mastodon anyway. 😊
@MattBinder Couldn’t read the entire article. In the middle a big pop-up occurred and I had to close it. Your web designers should be fired.
@MattBinder someone at Threads certainly has a different understanding of what "fixed" means than I do. I prefer the non-mafia version of the word.
@MattBinder Looks like #Threads is backtracking when they said they were using Instagram content moderation. Instead Threads will be making exceptions for right-wingers so that right-wingers can break the Instagram content moderation rules.
@david1 @MattBinder Instagram content moderation is also not great to begin with. They have a lot of “rules”, but every single time I’ve reported an account for breaking said rules, I receive a message days/weeks later saying that IG has too many things to review and couldn’t get to my report, so they’re closing it with no action and just suggest I block (which if course I’ve already done). I’ve never seen any action taken on any report I’ve made. 🤷🏻‍♀️
@MattBinder It will be very interesting to see if Donald Trump senior sets up an account on Threads...
@MattBinder followed. Glad you're here as well!

@MattBinder

Hey Matt, nice to see you on Mastodon!

@MattBinder Facebook has always been bad at handling misinformation if I recall correctly. At least the old Twitter was trying to handle the issue. I don't understand why anyway would join Threads other than "it's the hot new thing." I wonder if anyone will stay there or if the novelty will wear off.

@MattBinder Weeeell, color me surprised.

Nah, I'm not surprised.

@MattBinder wow. I made the correct choice not starting an account on a new hellsite.

@MattBinder Well, well, well. I had a feeling this Threads thing was going to be a new hellsite, and this being the new sister platform to existing hellsites Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, of course Zuck would want to appropriate Twitter's dumpster fire for himself. Sure enough.

I'm starting to think, if my instance doesn't defederate with threads(dot)net, I'll block it myself.

@MattBinder Somewhere, some years ago, an article I read said that Facebook would cave into conservative ad money, because if they denied those ads, right-wingers would leave, and that would mean less money overall. I imagine the "error correction" is them still trying to get as much of that ad money as they can.

I don't remember where that article is. I searched for it, but couldn't find it. Maybe someone knows it exactly or can find it better?

@MattBinder that’s all you need to know right there
@MattBinder
Guess I don't have to try that site now...
@MattBinder So much for it being better than Twitter.
@MattBinder
🥥 You've said everything one needs to know about #Threads in a single toot, Matt. Propz. 🥥
@MattBinder spending so much resources to make advertising indistinguishable from fascism.
@MattBinder oh, give me a break, #Threads. Same ol Facebook
@MattBinder nice reminder as zucc put his whole fash-loving ass on display of what kind of person he is
@MattBinder Any club that will accept someone like Jr, Zuck, etc isn't a club I want to be in.
@MattBinder There's something quite insidious out having a warning for users that "repeatedly posted false information" but then exempting various prominent accounts from it. It would be a lot more honest to not have the flag, if they're afraid to actually show it for the top spreaders of misinformation.
@MattBinder
Doesn't bode well for joining Fediverse.
@MattBinder @jeff Honestly this might be a very smart move. Preemptively make all the right-wing nuts hate your platform but without any hard policies. The crazies stay away on their own and you don’t have to deal with congressional hearings about free speech.
@MattBinder Sounds like a win for BlueSky.
