@pixelbud accurate af. I’ve never seen a better explanation. I feel seen.
@pixelbud TIL I might have APD 😶
@pixelbud This is a great way of explaining APD, both the original post, and your alt-text.
@pixelbud Oh god i feel this, it stresses me out so much because i wanna say "Im trying my hardest to hear what you're saying but theres a noise on the otherside of the room and its amplified in my head and its drowning out whatever you're saying, im sorry"
@pixelbud I have no diagnosis but when I saw this in another places I jumped up and said YES!
@pixelbud ...well then. This sent me down a rabbit hole of reading and came out knowing a little more about myself, so thank you for your service.
@desiree  I'm so glad. I love sharing info and hopefully helping others. ( really )
@pixelbud I got a voice message the other day from a person who knows I have APD. I hope they don’t expect a reply…
@pixelbud Story Time:
During my IGCSE we'd practice for the English listening exam in either the classroom or a projector room that has carpeting.
While in the carpeted room I'd do great, parsing about 90% of what I hear. The classroom was a little bit echo-y (reverb) and I could barely hear anything coming out of that cassette player, it was all nmmnnmnmnnn to me, I look around and my colleagues are hearing and writing down like it's nothing, they felt like aliens!

@autistic_enby I hate how ‘modern restaurants' have no carpet now. ‘Back in the day' many did and it was WONDERFUL. But they also had smoking sections so... win some lose some. I was always distracted by projectors too in school. I would either hear the fans too loudly -- and they would sit me near them! Or I would get distracted by the dust particles floating…

@pixelbud

I can hear things most people can't. Such as "you heard that water leak from way over here?". But it also means I have poor noise filtering as well, so when I ask "what?" it's not that I didn't hear you, or not get what you're saying, it's that I literally heard a garbled mess because the noise floor around us is quite high.

@atatassault I do the EXACT same thing. I had co-workers asking how I knew stuff. thinking I was overhearing or being nosey. No, can't help it. I heard music outside of my house today... a bass I can feel through the house... and my boyfriend was like, "I hear nothing" -- must be lucky 😂

@pixelbud

"It's like dyslexia, but for spoken language instead of written"

@pixelbud this has happened to me several times in a low frequency bases. Like twice a week.

When I repeat to people the pattern I understood they are like wtf.

Sometimes, this leads to confusion because I use to autocomplete the words I don't understand (this is more frequent) and other times I understand the sentence after being repeated and knowing the topic, like if I was able to recognize the sounds after that.
@pixelbud I didnt relate it with this at all since this happens when my thought is different to the situation.

Given other things, I have focussed my efforts in ADD.
@pixelbud somewhere along the way I learned that *if I'm not stressed and not hurried*, I can "replay" the sound in my mind and figure out what was actually said.
@recursive I do this too! And with a lot of memories. They trigger by a “sound clip" bubbling up from memory. Especially if it was a core memory.
@pixelbud i was diagnosis adhd WAY later in Life and it's painful found that the struggles family pointed as 'Numen being Dumb and weird' are actually things that other people experience and valid issues
@NumenSkog on the bright side, it’s probably a little validating to understand and know now too
@pixelbud then the next 5 seconds your brain actually processes what someone said and you reply with apparent lag

@TinyDragonArtist I sometimes pretend it was “deep thinking” after the fact lol

But yes. That lag time 😩😂

@pixelbud with the inevitable "huh?" From our end which infuriates them as much as it infuriates us :'>
