Thunderbird 115 "Supernova" launches on Monday, July 10th! It's our first step towards a more modern, more beautiful, and more customizable Thunderbird experience.

We think you're going to love it, and we are endlessly grateful for all of your support throughout the years 💙

@thunderbird Know that this will be renowned as a regression in usability.
@ellenor2000 Why do you say that?
@thunderbird @ellenor2000 likely that any new UX change will lead to the death of a cherished workflow OR it could lead to a revelation of a better workflow!
@sri @thunderbird Every UI/UX change since 2014 that has occurred in a program more than 6 years old has made it worse, maybe excepting font rendering.
@ellenor2000 @thunderbird It might cause some headaches for some people (there definitely will be some very angry loud (minority)), but as far as I know, the most controversal UI changes (density, unified folders etc.) can be reverted in settings, because the Thunderbird team actually listens to user feedback (unlike some big companies).
@ymstnt @ellenor2000 Indeed. in fact, we're not even defaulting to the view you see in these screenshots. So it should still feel very comfortable to people who are used to the existing layouts.
@thunderbird @ymstnt @ellenor2000 Ah this is so great to hear! I will definitely try out all the new layout options, because it looks great! And if the density doesn't work for me, then I'll use the existing layout. Thanks for being considerate Thunderbird team!
@thunderbird
This might actually be an issue. People who love Thunderbird's current UI will slowly get annoyed. People who currently can't use it because it's scruffy looking, will not go into the settings to make it look modern. I believe you should create a"Thunderbird Neue" app that starts with a fresh UI, and don't alienate both groups.
@ymstnt @ellenor2000
@lobau @thunderbird @ellenor2000 Just adding a heads up about the new features (maybe even a walkthrough) would solve that imo.
So I would need to install a new app and import all my settings and accounts? @lobau
I don't see how this would be better.
