Thunderbird 115 "Supernova" launches on Monday, July 10th! It's our first step towards a more modern, more beautiful, and more customizable Thunderbird experience.

We think you're going to love it, and we are endlessly grateful for all of your support throughout the years 💙

@thunderbird Can’t wait, dreading which of my extensions will stop working though. Could be a deal breaker.
@t3kk @thunderbird I was thinking the same thing for my extensions! :)
@aefthymiou @thunderbird I’m away for a few days so hopefully authors will have updated their creations by the time I return. Fingers crossed for us all.
@thunderbird sounds interesting, will check out then.
@thunderbird Know that this will be renowned as a regression in usability.
@ellenor2000 Why do you say that?
@thunderbird @ellenor2000 likely that any new UX change will lead to the death of a cherished workflow OR it could lead to a revelation of a better workflow!
@sri @thunderbird Every UI/UX change since 2014 that has occurred in a program more than 6 years old has made it worse, maybe excepting font rendering.
@ellenor2000 @thunderbird It might cause some headaches for some people (there definitely will be some very angry loud (minority)), but as far as I know, the most controversal UI changes (density, unified folders etc.) can be reverted in settings, because the Thunderbird team actually listens to user feedback (unlike some big companies).
@ymstnt @ellenor2000 Indeed. in fact, we're not even defaulting to the view you see in these screenshots. So it should still feel very comfortable to people who are used to the existing layouts.
@thunderbird @ymstnt @ellenor2000 Ah this is so great to hear! I will definitely try out all the new layout options, because it looks great! And if the density doesn't work for me, then I'll use the existing layout. Thanks for being considerate Thunderbird team!
@thunderbird
This might actually be an issue. People who love Thunderbird's current UI will slowly get annoyed. People who currently can't use it because it's scruffy looking, will not go into the settings to make it look modern. I believe you should create a"Thunderbird Neue" app that starts with a fresh UI, and don't alienate both groups.
@ymstnt @ellenor2000
@lobau @thunderbird @ellenor2000 Just adding a heads up about the new features (maybe even a walkthrough) would solve that imo.
So I would need to install a new app and import all my settings and accounts? @lobau
I don't see how this would be better.
@thunderbird @ymstnt @ellenor2000
@thunderbird great so early. I'm excited from the beta test already. The new design is nice and much cleaner 👍

@thunderbird I can't wait to test it!

It will certainly take some time to get used to after all this time, but it is awesome to see a Thunderbird that fits the 2020's 😍

@remidupre The best thing is, you can still use the traditional wide view and "table" layout you're used to, if you want!
@thunderbird Congratulations! Looking forward to giving it a try.
@thunderbird when will it be available on @fdroidorg 😍
@dan_tran_van @fdroidorg We're aiming for Q4 to have Thunderbird for Android released -- and yep, it'll be on F-Droid.
@thunderbird @dan_tran_van @fdroidorg Would it with K-9 Mail? Or will be a totally different app? Could we import our settings from K-9 Mail?

@thunderbird Looks fabolous, Monday couldn't come sooner (though I wouldn't skip the weekend, I need some rest  ).

Looks like the e-mail dark mode is built in now? Is this correct? Does that mean I can finally ditch Dark Reader?

@thunderbird You have got me oscillating between "That's not my Thunderbird😡" and "Aww.. that is so pretty". What sorcery is this?🤣🤣🤣
@thunderbird TbSync and Conversations are not yet compatible. So it's a hard pass for now.
@thunderbird can't wait to see which extensions will stop working - since that wouldn't be something I mind as I am just so thankful for all the refactoring that needed to happen to make this possible 🥰
@thunderbird
Wow. It was about time to have a beautiful modern UI on this legendary software!
@thunderbird Oh, it looks so good - can't wait to get the update. :) Thanks for all the hard work!!!

@thunderbird Looking forward to try it out...

Updates for stable channel on Monday too?

@thunderbird Having been on the beta for a while, I can only say that the new layout is absolutely amazing! Congrats on the launch!🥳
@thunderbird any plans for an iOS client anywhere down the road?
@thunderbird would love to be able to use it with Microsoft Exchange accounts but they don't work with Thunderbird without paying 10€ per year or so for Owl
@thunderbird The new look is great!
@thunderbird this looks really awesome! 👍
@thunderbird Please tell me i can switch that to the old layout o.o
That's horrible big and a waste of space and way to many colors o.o
@thunderbird i will test this new version on my second notebook.
@thunderbird Any chance of a system tray icon for notifications when the client is closed? This is the only reason why I don't use thunderbird.
@thunderbird Time to give Apple Mail a pass. Hoping the new list view will get some more polish to look like in the early mockups. Have been using the beta for private mails for quite some time and looking forward to the stable release 😍
@thunderbird i hope unified folders can be disabled. Othewise looks nice.
@thunderbird And we’re quite excited. The wait is hard! :)
@thunderbird never thought I would look forward to a Monday!

@thunderbird God damn!! Thought this day was never coming.

Thanks Mozilla💗

@thunderbird MacOS, iPad, iPhone?
@Breznsoiza macOS definitely. Our mobile version for iOS will begin development this year, and hopefully we'll have more to share with you early in 2024.
@thunderbird I'm prepared to hate it for about a week (maybe less) and then don't want to ever go back.
@thunderbird Oooh! Is there a beta version I can try earlier?

@omgubuntu

Looks to me like there is. I've been on this for a while, it's very nice!

@thunderbird

@omgubuntu @thunderbird

Have been running Beta for a couple of weeks…
One word : #awesome !!!
