I’m looking for east coast #Indigenous stories about will o’ wisps. I can find lots of white people stories, but there’s gotta be some Mi’kmaq/Maliseet/Passamaquoddy stories, too. Anyone? #folklore #mikmaq #passamaquoddy #maliseet #wolastoqey #WillOWisp #GhostFire #JackOLantern #legend #legends #superstition #wabanaki #maritimes #Indigedon
I went looking through my personal library. I found a snippet of information in Jake Richards’ “Backwoods Witchcraft,” but it’s about #Cherokee. It says they call the will o wisps “fire carriers” and says they’re to be avoided. They bring madness and rage to those who see them. Hmm…
I went on a big search and found a book which might have some information: “Mi’kmaq Ghost Stories” by Julie Pellissier-Lush. I ordered in a copy. The book is on back order, so who knows when I might get a copy?
