Right now -- today -- would be a great day for some socially responsible philanthropy to support the migration from Twitter to the fediverse of all the organizations, such as the weather service, that realize they can no longer remotely rely on it to connect to the public.

@dangillmor

I'd rather see philanthropists create a new Twitter, w same ability to reach thousands of people w a single post. Mastodon's too fragmented to be of similar value.

A "new Twitter' would need to have the ability to easily migrate all followers and archived posts and lists, from the "old Twitter". I and many others have invested 10-15 years. Find an EASY way to move that to a new platform.

A weather alert post from old to new Twitter should reach same or bigger audience.

@tutormentor1 @dangillmor that’s a poor way of thinking it. Nobody complains that the web or email is too fragmented. They could host a mastodon instance themselves and messages would get through. Worst case you can read the feed directly from them same as you could with twitter.

@cirdan12 @dangillmor

I'm not sure I agree w your comparison. If I search #tutormentor on the web I find far more sites than I find so far on Mastodon.

If I build an email list I can send a newsletter & reach far more than I can on Mastodon (& probably on Twitter).

I'm never likely to host an instance. I visit this place daily & browse the feed. I find many interesting post, but few focused specifically on #nonprofit or #youthdevelopment.

Whereas my lists on Twitter point to hundreds.
