saw this Meta commercial that was about some queer-themed whatever they were doing, but the narrator, who I guess was supposed to be a queer woman, said the project made her feel "normalized."

To me that just feels like right wing framing. We don't need to be "normalized." That's not a goal queer people I know have. But right wingers talk (with dread) about queer people being normalized all the time

What they mean of course when they say it is we're not normal, but want to be considered normal.

Course what the right wingers and liberals don't dream of is a lot of queer people not only don't believe in "normal," but don't see assimilation as a goal

If you can grant us permission to enter your mainstream, you can change your mind and take it away again

@InternetEh
Thank you!
This reminds me of a phrase I keep hearing that pisses me off: “We shouldn’t be penalized because of who we love!”

What if I don’t “love” anybody, don’t I deserve rights, too? The whole framing of “who we love” or based on “love” is bullshit. I can understand it from a marketing perspective, but I think it sucks!

I deserve rights just for being alive!

@InternetEh
I am queer PERIOD.

That doesn’t hinge on any other person, regardless of emotional connection.

@n69n yeah I really hate "love wins" and I've never even thought of it from that pov
@InternetEh Most queer people I know consider being called normal an insult.
