I know we hope that Mastodon could get to a point where it can replicate the utility of Twitter for e.g. crisis communication - but in the meantime I certainly hope I haven’t hit my tweet limit the next time my town is on fire. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8exgmVX/

Twitter is becoming unusable in the most important ways: eg crisis/disaster communication. Rate limits on Twitter. 🤦‍♀️ #twitter #twitterdestruction #socialmediaresearch

@cfiesler I would love to see municipal/federal instances run expressly for this purpose...

@wcbdata @cfiesler a few gov instances do exist, such as https://social.bund.de/about for German federal departments and agencies.

So, it cooooould be done. I’m not sure it’s the right kind of medium for this, though.

@chucker @cfiesler I've been thinking about that, and it's a lot like AM radio in that regard. A public service on a publicly (and almost universally) available medium that can be checked in specific, predictable ways for trustworthy, very low bandwidth information. I think it could work!
