On my recent hike to the top of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, I saw many butterflies fluttering around and many flowers clinging happily onto the rocks.
This is the Sierra Nevada Violet or Viola crassiuscula, a rare endemic species of the Sierra Nevada that grows only above 2,500 metres of altitude, digs its roots down into loose scree or gravel, and waits for the snow to melt in order to show its lovely colours.
