@geekysteven there was a time, not long ago at all, when no business would dare proclaim anything gay. Even the smallest, even token expressions of solidarity should be celebrated.
@seatek@geekysteven Yes and no, yes, it's much better now, but there's something super cynical about corps being super "pro queer" in their marketing, while also not moving a finger to do anything for queer people besides taking our money.
@ainmosni@geekysteven yes I hear that all the time. But they are at least doing something for us by raising exposure, and sometimes in huge national campaigns. Just because they might benefit monetarily doesnβt mean their efforts are without value. They most certain are valuable to us.
@seatek@ainmosni@geekysteven given the right wing uprising in recent years, I thought businesses would drop these activities like a stone. The fact that they didnβt is a bloody bright spot for me.
@seatek there's value in support, but I think it's mostly discounted by the vast majority of those business interests throwing their weight behind reactionary politicians because the tax breaks count more than queer lives
@geekysteven@lisamelton Businesses are split into three: those that are LGBTQIA+ friendly, *or owned*, those that take down their pride logos on the 1st July, and those that just kind of forget for a while, I guess?
