I signed up for a trial of the Sudowrite AI writing app. I thought I’d check it out, if only to procrastinate actual writing. I cut and pasted a paragraph from my WiP and asked it to continue writing to see if it comes up with something I hadn’t thought of. The character is a woman. I tried everything. Tried write, rewrite, describe. Every suggestion I got involved her running into a handsome man. Went through several runs. Every single one. #Sudowrite #WritingCommunity #AI #Writing
@annewalk I used an AI plot beat generator just to see, and every story ending was incredibly clichéd.
@Shanmonster yup! That’s been my experience in the past though I’ve gotten some unexpected word combos to play with in poetry writing. I put a paragraph in with a male character, and every suggestion involved some sort of tv thriller trope. At least the guy character got to drink and play chess and receive suspicious letters/phone calls. The women just strolled or sat sighing until she caught the gaze of a man. Talk about literal!
@annewalk You could write that she stabs the handsome man and ask it to continue from there. Although I imagine it would just have her meet another handsome man. Maybe this time with body armor.

@hperrin Ha! I’ll try it. This is what it gave me to work with:

As she sits there lost in thought, she hears the sound of footsteps approaching. She turns to see her neighbor, Tom, walking towards her. Tom is tall, muscular, with sandy blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. Steph has always thought he was good-looking, but she's never acted on it. She's too busy with work and her writing to think about starting a relationship.

"Hey there, Steph," Tom says with a smile.

"Hi, Tom.”

@hperrin my prompt:

“Steph takes one look at Tom, smashes her wine glass over the arm of her chair and stabs him in the throat.”

I’ve been given two choices. In one, she packs a go-bag and goes on the lamb. In the other, she cleans up the blood and hopes no one notices. In both cases, she is flummoxed as to why she did it as she’s just a “harmless writer, living in her quiet neighbourhood”.

Does nothing to help my WiP but sure was fun! Thanks for the idea. 😃

@annewalk There’s a hashtag for #MenWritingWomen, but I think there needs to be a new one for #AIWritingWomen. xD
