These are either pomegranate seedlings or weeds. One of several things I started from seed gathered last autumn. Pomegranate was from Aude, France and seeds germinated in Sheffield, UK. Now checking hardiness and growth needs..... #pomegranate #allotment
@hicksy2 I think some of them are pomegranate at least. They have roundish leaves like the first kale or cabbage leaves, so hopefully you'll see those clearly soon. I have a few seeds in pots and I'm trying a method I saw where you put a half pomegranate in a pot and cover. How long did these take to come up?
@BardfromtheBookshop about two months from planting dried out seeds
@hicksy2 good to know, mine aren't there yet.
@BardfromtheBookshop they are the only things from last Autumn's gatherings to germinate so far. I collected hazelnuts, walnuts, chestnuts and apple pips from Sheffield. I collected pomegranate, Ruscus and juniper from Aude. As a bonus, I have found a hazel seedling, a pippin apple and a beech seedling. All moved or to be moved to opportune sites.
@BardfromtheBookshop so, of these, the only things to germinate have been two out of twenty American walnuts. Next time, I am putting the potted up nuts in mouse-proof boxes. 0/20 for hazelnuts and chestnut germination is very disappointing #hazel #chestnut #reforesting #coppicing
@hicksy2 sorry to hear that! That is disappointing.
