First day: Lab tours at #JILA in #Boulder, #Colorado!
The amazing thing about lab tours is that you get to see what is behind those fascinating papers you try to compare yourself to. And it is ALWAYS grad students who struggled with something, had to improvise, realised after a year that something just doesn't work out etc. Even the once with fancy group leaders (like Nobel prize winners) fail. A lot. But still, so many amazing experiments and people!

Also, physicist are just nerds, so you find funny and weird things around every corner in a very serious laser lab environment.

Next stop: #EstesPark, #Colorado!
We crossed a beautiful lake and are now enjoying a sensational view of the #RockyMountains which basically surround the entire town!
Also met some cool people at the welcome reception of #ICOLS2023.
The conference happens in the #StanleyHotel, famous for being the inspiration for #StephenKing's #TheShining.... Who remembers the scene in the Hedge Maze...?
@ditsch42 we just left Estes Park this morning! Rockys are awesome. There's supposedly a great donut shop in Estes Park which we haven't tried😅 enjoy the stay!
