-36 years ago, I co-founded ”Open Text Systems Inc”; today "OpenText", an enterprise software roll-up, lots of M&A of OK-but-declining companies. I've had no involvement this century.
-I see they've acquired Micro Focus, famous as the leading modern supplier of COBOL technology. Yay COBOL?
-IBM sued Micro Focus over something in their “modernization for IBM mainframe PL/I and COBOL development” product. Boo IBM?
-Judge threw the case out. Yay judge?

@timbray weird, they acquired, at some point, TeamSite, which I spent a few years as a consultant and help desk supporting...

@timbray The only COBOL I ever wrote was 4 lines of Micro Focus PC COBOL to make an Int 21 call to get the Netware IPX address of the network card in the Intel 386 PC.

1989 was a weird year.

@timbray Micro Focus also bought the Autonomy search and cm stuff, after the HP debacle. They have a fair number of customers going down with the ship.
@timbray They acquired a digital fax and secure file and messaging solution from this Canadian company, Xmedius, that we use at work. That same company also acquired a different digital fax product that our county uses.
@timbray And I work now for SUSE, which used to be owned by MicroFocus. Number of changes in ownership in these companies is mind-blowing.
