I think NPR mischaracterizes this solar-power debate as “environmentalist vs. environmentalist” when it’s probably “environmentalist vs. NIMBY (‘Not In My BackYard,’ the selfish fight song of moneyed white privilege).” NIMBY only pretends to care about society’s needs as it pushes the cost and responsibility of handling them onto the backs of poorer, minority neighborhoods. #environmentalracism - https://www.npr.org/2023/06/18/1177524841/solar-energy-project-location-debate?f=1003&ft=nprml

@JMaverickJacks1

Not a popular opinion, but I'd say include high speed rail to this equation as well.

It's not NIMBY as much as it is class based.

Not many poor and working class folks will be riding super expensive inter city rail. Inner city mass transit just isn't as sexy and cutting edge to excite the #pamperedSUVclass

The good of the hoi polloi plays 2nd fiddle to the aesthetics of landed wealthy. Same as it ever was.

@Ultraverified NIMBY is primarily a class-based, racist phenomenon that exists mostly among wealthier white people.
