The malignancy of our wealthy overlords was bad enough without watching people try to form parasocial relationships with them over the Internet.
It's kind of impressive how assholes these days have dispensed with any pretense because they can just say "I'm literally evil" and still get thousands of online fans.
@gwynnion Millions, even, for at least one certain asshole.
@sindarina More than one but you're right, I wasn't thinking big enough. [sigh]
@sindarina Evil is very popular these days.
@gwynnion @sindarina
A lot of fools mistake the assholery that high-status individuals can get away with for an attribute of high status they can emulate or bask in.

I like your badger! 🦡

Thanks!
I chose it years ago partly for book promo reasons, and recoloured it blue because my hair was blue at the time.

@gwynnion

Sadly, I think that's *why* they get so many online fans. A lot of humanity is incredibly disappointing.

(Though, not all people are like that ... and I make sure to remind myself of that often so I don't completely encase myself in pessimism.) 😬

@gwynnion I feel like there has always been this unspoken rule that political positions, much like religious beliefs, are somehow above criticism. Obviously this is a serious matter now that we have decided "should everyone get human rights?" is a political question, but it's a pretty ridiculous rule regardless.
@gwynnion fun side note, this apparently pops up all over the place in the dating world, where right-wing chuds have decided they are being discriminated against because decent human beings don't want anything to do with Nazi garbage. This is especially funny because many of them equate it to refusing to date someone because of their race or trans status, all the while forgetting that those are things they proudly and vocally do themselves.
@gwynnion Why some of these fools think these billionaires need people to defend them on the internet is beyond me.
