With all this #RedditMigration going on, there's been a renewed interest in #forums, especially with #activitypub integration.

We've got @devnull working on it. I'm hoping we don't miss the boat by the time it can be rolled out, but we want to do right by the #fediverse and come out swinging with a highly interoperable frontend to the fediverse-at-large.

Stay tuned here for more info as the story (and branch) develops!

@nodebb @devnull let me know if you need anything when it comes to understanding Flag activities & how reports/Moderation works
Thanks @thisismissem β€” if there's one thing I learned in my month and a half here (πŸ‘Ά), it that robust moderation tooling is number one on the feature list after basic #ActivityPub interop support.

@nodebb @devnull

How do you view NodeBB different than say #Lemmy and #Kbin, are you a pure forum versus a link upvote/downvote aggregator?

@tchambers @devnull Yes sir! We're a forum software that predates /kbin and possibly Lemmy. Been in active development outside the realm of the #fediverse until this year, so we're doing the work to figure out just how AP can work with our existing schema and expectations. So far a lot of the concepts are identical 🀞

@nodebb @devnull

Keep me in the loop, always looking for new cool fedivere enabled apps.

And I totally could imagine the need for more of a full featured forum that does Federation in a first class way. RIght now my main view on that is Discourse with an activitypub plugin.

@tchambers @nodebb I've been vaguely following along, mostly because @smallcircles lets me know when something happens on that front. I honestly wish them the best. If #NodeBB, Discourse, and Flarum all federate, that's only a win for the #fediverse
@nodebb Definitely interested, lemmy and kbin just aren't doing the job right yet. A forum fully compatible with AP and not just a reddit clone would surely gain traction. Keep it up!

@nodebb @devnull @jdp23 I heard that Discourse is working on their implementation. Maybe you could work in this together?

One thing though: make sure you have really good moderation tools! Because with great Fediverse powers comes great responsibility! (To protect your users against harassment, trolls and spam)

@narF This is one of the intriguing things to me about @nodebb et al coming to the fediverse, they've developed good mod tools over the years and that could be a big help here! @devnull

@jdp23 @narF @devnull indeed! We've worked with big AAA gaming companies to really build out our moderation tooling. Both #Bethesda and #Ubisoft collaborated with us to improve our flagging and user mod tools, and the challenge with #ActivityPub is figuring out how to federate these tools.

A worthy cause. πŸ’―

@nodebb @jdp23 @narF Note that @nodebb said collaborated, past tense. We lost both those companies to what I feel is an inferior communication product, but this is not the forum (ha ha get it) to discuss that particular grievance πŸ˜‰
