On Monday, the Senate Legal Committee will proceed to clause by clause debate on Bill S-12. One of the bill’s stated intents is to give sexual assault victims more power to challenge publication bans on their own identity. I have drafted an amendment to address this flaw in Bill S-12. I hope to present it at Committee on Monday night. The government is proposing an amendment of its own - but one, I feel, which could have unintended consequences of its own and criminalize private correspondence and communication.
