Today's velomobile adventure was a delivery run. A customer in the countryside near here had ordered a few bike parts so, as usual for local customers, I delivered them by bike.

Dutch Bike Bits

Tried and trusted parts for Dutch Bicycles, or bicycles that would like to be a bit more Dutch.

The route took me past the TT track. Next week it'll be chaos here as those who celebrate fossil fuel use as much of it as they can in the shortest possible period, by going around quickly as they can around the track. I can't feel positive about this.
Through the countryside on the way to my next destination.

There were a lot of obstructions of one kind or another in Assen today.

And then, after one final reminder that the city will officially be worshipping fossil fuel next week, I got back home, with a loaf of bread for my lunch picked up in the city centre and a 20 kg sack of olivine ("greensand") which will eventually absorb about 20 kg of CO2 when I use it in the garden. I don't use any fossil fuels, but others unfortunately still do. It seems better to buy this stuff to dilute our home-made compost than other things which are more environmentally destructive.

This afternoon's ride was to the centre of Assen to buy some vegetables at the market. We've lived here for quite a long time now and seeing a huge number of bikes everywhere is no longer a novelty. But it is still fabulous.

A view from the cycle path

Why is it that people cycle more in the Netherlands than in any other country ? The answer is in the infrastructure. Long established blog with content up to the present day detailing how the infrastructure of the Netherlands makes cycling so pleasant that almost everyone cycles in this country and a higher proportion of cycle journeys are made here than anywhere else
