"When cis people try to understand what it is to be trans, I think they often try to imagine what it would feel like to want to be 'the opposite sex'. What they should be trying to imagine, instead, is how it would feel to wake up and find that the whole world insists they *are* the opposite sex. That would be a much closer scenario to how it feels to be trans." Sage

@transactualuk they still will not get it because they're missing an important ingredient, the lived experience, now if they had the courage to put on makeup and a dress and live that way for a year, then maybe they'll get a smidgen of the experience, they still won't get it fully because they can take off the dress anytime.

@Terri @transactualuk

Str8-cis-dude here: Had an experience in highschool that really sent it home; A local department store had a..promo-fashion-teenager club-group-thing;

Anyway, initation was dress like a girl for a day. I was always pretty tolerant, BEFOREHAND I, figured it would be funny and chill, like whatever.

Once the makeup and dress was on, it was like BAD. Didn't realize how uncomfortable it would make me. Made me realize how real it must have been for those who 'chose' that?

@transactualuk i hate that you label me cis, i am me, human, one spirit. Two spirit are recognized, accepted, there is no such thing as normal. I get offended that i am yelled at in media about trans, lgbq whatever. You are human, children of the earth, all are equal in creation. To me, u dont only scream for recognition, you scream for RECOGNITION.
@DeesaRoot
I can respect that you're not cis if you don't feel that way from a cultural or social background. Rejecting the gender norms of colonisers is honestly very good, but then this doesn't apply to you so I'm unsure why you're framing this as trans people taking up too much space? Not everyone is from your cultural background and will call themselves two spirit as a result if they are unlike you.
@transactualuk
@transactualuk I got asked by my daughter about this yesterday, and my answer was: "You feel like a girl, right? Now imagine if you look in the mirror, you see a boy instead. That would look wrong, correct?" Is that analogy adequate, or am I totally off?
@courts it’s a useful analogy, yes.
@transactualuk Yes, this fits perfectly! Indeed, what cis people imagine being trans is, is actually what *trans* people imagine being in the right body (i.e., cis)!
@transactualuk The thing that I always get hung up on is all the things that y'all have to go through, just to live as your authentic selves. Especially if you have to administer hormones or get surgeries. It's just so much.
@transactualuk this is a damn good explanation for me, i will start to use it. 🙏 Thx.
@transactualuk
I guess that's also a good way to find out if you're nonbinary. I wouldn't care much. Might be nice, actually.
@transactualuk
thanks.
That helps me understand.
@transactualuk The way I put it is, evil doctors knock you out in the middle of the night and make you look and sound convincingly like the opposite sex. How do you feel about that?
@transactualuk So sick of trans people telling the world that they know how every other trans person feels.
