Another photo of the small menhir near Gew Mine on Trink Hill in Lelant, West Penwith in Cornwall, photographed from the east-south-east on 12th June 2004. #Lelant #Cornwall #Kernow #GewMineMenhir #Penwith #Megaliths #Menhirs #StandingStoneSunday
@Vibracobra23 I fought my way through the gorse to the summit cairn one midsummer, but not to this. Is it prehistoric? I think there are a number of very modern (like possibly even-later-than-your-photo modern) standing stones on the southern slopes.
@thesweetcheat It's an uncertain one. It's likely that it would only be determined by an excavation.
@Vibracobra23 thanks, probably one for a winter visit!
@thesweetcheat Aye! There'd be a lot less vegetation in winter, so easier to get to, to find and to see.
@Vibracobra23 the cairn has this weirdly shaped stone in its edge:
@thesweetcheat That's a granite pasty!
@Vibracobra23 yes! Exactly. It was a proper battle to get to it, I deserved a pasty (but didn't get one).
@thesweetcheat Trink and Trencrom are both a bit of a climb, but the views are amazing.
