I strongly suspect I am one of those “woke communists” you worry about. But you probably couldn’t actually explain what either of those words actually mean, could you?

I’m a card-carrying atheist, I think a woman’s right to choose is very important, I think that “well regulated militia” means that guns should be carefully licensed and not just randomly given to any moron with a pulse, and I couldn’t care less if you decided to dress up in the “wrong” clothes or decided you’d rather live your life without feeling tied to whatever plumbing you were born with.

And dammit, if that all makes me “woke”, then I think anybody who uses that word as a pejorative is a f*cking disgrace to the human race. So please just unfollow me right now.

Sure @[email protected] could have articulated his criticisms better, but why take it so personally?
Besides stating 2010s democrat positions doesn't make you woke. In fact it can make you far-right if you haven't also updated a litany of other positions.

@gabriel @chrisisgr8 morgthorak was responding to Linus' canceling NYT because the website was broken, the constant stream of reactionary bigotry, specifically against LGBTQ+ which is not at all veiled in morgthorak's posts. Morgthorak is not a good faith actor.

Tolerance isn't a unilateral course of action, it's social contract and if others are refusing to abide by that contract then they abdicate receiving tolerance from those that do.

People disagreeing with someones opinion = hates the person/group they disagree with.

I think this is a very corrosive and dangerous trend. It has certainly made me more wary of speaking my true opinion on many subjects. Because you're not met with debate/constructive criticism, you're just met with a mob yelling/bullying you. 1/x

We are more focused on finding the right label to smear those we disagree with, rather than debating the actual issue at hand. IMO, this is how democracy dies. 2/2
