The axe has fallen, without any consultation, without any consideration, without any compassion, without any warning. #newTumbl is no more since about 60 minutes ago on this day (2023-06-07).

We didn’t know when, but we knew it was coming when Dean disappeared from the team mid 2021 (improvements to the site halted then), then blogs began to be erased more and more frequently and with no justification whatsoever. I hope you had the time to backup your blog.

@Funky007 Wow I had no idea. Well that sucks. I guess the Tumblr exodus was a failure.

@jmonty No it wasn’t, in the sense that Tumblr never recovered. They don’t deserve to, as the Verizon execs destroyed a treasure of openness and safety instead of attacking the true problems : the Nazi and the pedophile blogs.

For now, this open forum has not been recreated, but I’m sure a new one will, over time.

@Funky007 is this the best alternative for now? Btw I’ve been following you for years.
@anon1123 it looks like it, yes. I liked the Tumblr format, more than the Twitter one (replicated here on Mastodon). But I’m not writing on right-wing sites for sure, so I don’t see anywhere else I can go now, for sure. No Twitter, no Tumblr.
@Funky007 a sad day indeed. Really appreciate what you did at NT and Tumbler before then.
@Funky007 I left at the end of 2019. Dean began being less communicative with the user base and the moderation decisions were just weird. To me, his heart wasnʼt in it even then.
@Funky007 I can just guess that skimming the ok NSFW from the creepy NSFW is very costly, even if you employ moderators from third-world Countries. Maybe in the future AIs will solve that function
@rickleone at the same time, you know that the “skimmers” on newTumbl were not from third-world countries, right ?
@Funky007 No sorry, I've made assumptions motivated by the world trend on social media moderation.
And the fact that we live in a cultural climate very polarized regarding sex.
