Welp. I took a 240km detour, 100km on a logging road, around #cameronlakefire to get home to #PortAlberni #BCWildfire but I met two new very tall friends! #CameronBluffs #Elk #RooseveltElk #Youbou
The sunset over the Franklin River and Alberni Inlet was pretty good from the logging road too! I’m sure a little bit of the smoke from the #CameronLakeFire helped that out. #sunset #PortAlberni

There will be many people who did not make it home tonight or to where they needed to go. I have heard many stories already of people offering homes, hotels, and places to take refuge. People coming together. I am hearing there could be both trees and rocks on the highway. #BCHwy4 could be closed all day tomorrow. It could be closed for longer than that. Time will tell. Goodnight all. #CameronLakeFire is 80ha. Photos are from #BCwildfire page.

@alberniweather assuming you're going to hold off on commuting until the highway is deemed safe again? Glad you made it OK, that route's not exactly friendly for cars! (jealous about seeing the elk, too!)
@avienith I’ve driven it a few times over many years so it was no problem. Just a little dusty! :) But ya, I expect the highway to be down for a day at least. I wanted to be home. My work won’t make me commute 200km. :)
@alberniweather totally understand wanting to be home!! glad there's the alternate route, dusty and long though it may be. Fingers crossed things stabilize soon.
@alberniweather Glad you got home safely — and glad you'll be able to stay put for a bit.
