@UnconventionalEmma @5tern1 You can almost hear a hundred Silicon Valley right libertarians cry out in unison: “What? Not surge pricing?!”
@aral @UnconventionalEmma @5tern1
The closest US equivalent were the free neighborhood fridges set up by individuals and stocked by community donations during the lockdown. But they were all removed by cops or public works crews
@ophiocephalic @aral @UnconventionalEmma @5tern1 Can't have mutual aid in the capitalist dystopia, what kind of dystopia allows improvement?
@lispi314 @aral @UnconventionalEmma @5tern1
IMO this is the key. We need to affirm the right to autonomous mutual aid. Telling to see the state exert so much effort to enforce disempowerment
@UnconventionalEmma that's a really cool concept. it being paid the rest of the time ensures that the food is being cycled.
@UnconventionalEmma too bad a surprising amount of Japanese people live out of 24/7 internet booths that rent by the hour so they don't appear homeless.

@Pibble @UnconventionalEmma Still better than living on the streets.

U.S zoning enforces a situation wherein you must live in an apartment above a certain size otherwise you are homeless. Permanent, comfortable housing is best but we should at least have more options to avoid living on the streets.

The current estimate is something like 5,400 people which is definitely more than it should be but that is out of a population of 124 million.

@cary lul, id hazard the guess that number isnt even 15% of the actual problem.
