Went to a destash sale at a local fabric recycling shop (like a thrift shop) called Upcycle. Bought a ton of stuff for beginner projects and only cost me $35 all up.

One deal was to absolutely cram this lot of bits and bobs into the fabric bag provided for $5. Bargain! Plus there were 2 sets of knitting needles (not pictured since i gave them to Aunty at lunch).

These two cards wrapped with chord and fringe were only a $1-2 each. And the zippers were about 50c each (maybe 1 longer one was $1). No idea what i'll use the purple fringe stuff for but too gorgeous to leave behind.

This was the $35 thrift score. Everything from small remnants of fabric (like a strip of purple corduroy) to a pair of mens' large hi-vis trousers. Planning to make lots of different bags to learn more about sewing (and for fun).

So excited about all this stuff. Now just have to wash the fabrics (though they're in pretty good condition). Have been organising the bits and bobs into old chocolate tins so it's more discoverable.

@psychopoesie

My most surprising fabric bonus was when I grabbed a boxing bag thrown out for council cleanup.
My daughter thought she wanted a boxing bag, so ta-da!

One of the hanging straps had torn, and when I unzipped the bag to look at repairing it, I discovered that it was stuffed with fabric offcuts 🤯
OK, there was probably 5% sand as well, and lots of unusable scraps, but I still saved lots of fabric from an undignified percussive softening process 🤪

Re: the hi-vis. Some workwear is made to industry-specific standards, and must not be repaired, so you can find items that look near new, or only need a simple repair. I offered to mend a friends trousers, and was told how even the thread and buttons have to be certified against high-voltage for his job, and damaged clothing must be discarded not repaired. In some circumstances a visible repair can be a sackable offence.

@Havenite how interesting - did not know that about hi-vis. And love your punching bag fabric piñata story! 😆
