The #Bible has been removed from libraries in Utah after a parent used a new law that permits the removal of "pornographic".

The parent argued that the Bible contained topics such as incest, bestiality, genital mutilation, and infanticide, making it pornographic under the new definition set forth in Utah Code Ann. ยง 76-10-1227.

A GOP lawmaker expressed "sadness" regarding the situation.

Davis District pulls Bible from elementaries, junior highs 'due to vulgarity or violence'

The Bible has been removed from all elementary and junior high school libraries throughout the Davis School District after someone challenged its contents.

@els76uk As the great and partially late philosophers Mel & Kim sang: PREDICTABLE!

Yet a free speech win this is not. Banning an ancient text full of (from an ahistoric/contemporanist point of view) obscene content is not a reductio ad absurdum invalidating the banning of books altogether. Wish it were so simple.

@js @els76uk But is does point out the dangers of banning books to the ignorant masses of Christian crypto-fascists in a way that perhaps 3% of them have the intellectual clarity to absorb.
