I love public libraries because they are built on the principle that books are so important and so necessary to human flourishing that access to them cannot depend on your income.

And that is exactly why they have always been radically political.
The two main principles of public libraries are to increase reading, and to be available to the public. This is why there are attempts to close libraries and schools. Don’t confuse non-partisan with being apolitical.
