Why do we accept these obscene levels of #Inequality in the #UK? #Foodbank demand soaring and soaring; families who only have £4 per week for #Food; better paid #NHS staff routinely bringing in food so that their colleagues can make it through the day. Meanwhile more #Billionaires and wealth at the top than ever. Yet all “normal” by now. We have #ShiftingBaselineSyndrome not just with #ClimateChange but also inequality

‘You wake up wondering where your next meal is coming from’: UK food bank crisis is only getting worse

Last time the Observer visited St Andrew’s church in London, we heard how paying bills was difficult. Now, even with the warmer weather, nothing has got easier

@pvonhellermannn please, I don’t get it either just discussing more equal distribution of funding for those struggling, better education early, gets you labelled, UK has always been more direction US and with permanent propaganda by the few billionaires who own the press, I cant see a change coming, EU countries not perfect but better social care, personally have to consider if I can continue staying in a country long term with failing health care 🤦🏽‍♀️ decision after next election

It's a cycle in late stage Capitalism. Look at 1890s - another 'Gilded Age'. The first Roosevelt tried to stem it with antitrust and similar business restraint, but he didn't actively support the Working Class. It took a 'Great' depression before the second Roosevelt (and his wife) took action to support the (white) Working Class. Since then it's been the focus of the very rich to undermine and remove any/all those benefits. Gaslighting the Working Class has been instrumental.
@pvonhellermannn I don't know what a shifting baseline syndrome is. I do believe that increasing inequality is natural and mathematically necessary as a Pareto distribution of market share, under competitive conditions. It extends all the way from whose idease are promoted, to who controls the means of commerce etc., to who sells - both literally and metaphorically. It doesn't come out of thin air (or even Godly hard work) as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcEWRykSgwE implies, but out allowing free competition to determine whose work is rewarded.
