Welcome to Canada but be aware. #Ukrainian students are discovering how expensive it is to pursue post-secondary education here. Many citizens here graduate with over $100,000 in debt and then are under employed. It is much more difficult for non-citizens. #education #debt #socialism #capitalism #ukraine

Ukrainians who fled the war are not considered refugees under Canada's emergency travel program and must pay expensive international student fees to pursue post-secondary education in Canada.

Maybe they should go to Germany where it's free. A friend of mine from Việt Nam did just that.

Education should not a privilege, it should be a right.

@brianbeeler That could be a solution depending on so many factors. Education is very accessible to many people through libraries, online, personal associations. I believe the bigger issue is #credentialism which can be a barrier especially within bureaucratic structures.

@gdjp

Completely agree. With resources like universities placing complete course lectures on YouTube and the Internet Archive education has never been more access accessible.

Foreign students come to the US & Canada more for the credentials because too many HR depts. require a degree for jobs that don't require a degree. In turn college has become more of a credentialing scam.

In the end it's capitalism that's to blame.
