It's really interesting to see how different the vibes on Bluesky and here are.

Bluesky is lot more anarchic and less serious, more shitposting. A lot less deep debate about topics but significantly funnier.

@tante how would you describe the vibe over there?
@mrbellek A lot more anarchic and less serious, more shitposting. A lot less deep debate about topics.
@tante … silently waiting for the next toot telling us how the vibes differ… hoping for shitload of enlightenment. πŸ˜‡
@tante funnier? Come on Fediverse we can do that! Let’s be more fun, shall we? #fediverse #fundiverse
@Ihazchaos It's not a competition. Someone wrote something like "Mastodon is like visiting a conference of peers, and bluesky is like having fun with internet friends" and that is not untrue
@tante @Ihazchaos Part of me believes that it should indeed by a competition. I personally believe that bluesky corp has bad motives, questionable leadership, and a harmful business model that among other things creates an ecosystem that will be heavily controlled and restricted and not open to the many like fedi is.

But part of me recognizes that actual decentralization which the fedi is and the bluesky is not, and might not ever be, creates a different experience than the entertainment broadcast that many big "social" media apps have become.

There is plenty of shitposting here on fedi and even inside joke memes about those shitposts, but it is not being shared to random people without people's consent. If one joins fedi at at the beginning of adulthood and joins a friend of a friends server the fedi I would gather the fedi would feel a lot more like shitposting space. If you join the fedi through a professional network, your posts will indeed be majority ones of the professional variety.

Regardless of whether the fedi and bluesky should compete, I definitely think there is need for more tools to share posts of a different variety and tools to fetch those varieties; this would help people get more diverse timelines. Akkoma makes some strides in this direction with admins being able to to create a "bubble timeline" (of different local servers timelines) to share with users of their instance. Calckey through the use of antennas allows each individual to create multiple personal private bubble timelines. Federated groups(like friendica has) also has some potential.
@tante Bluesky is also an invite only community of those allowed in where many of those invitations were aimed at Twitter "power users" so yeah I'd expect it, overall, to be more like the best of Twitter. For now.
@tante I think the biggest problem by far on mastodon is discovery. The cool and funny shitposters are here too, you just can’t find them.
@matthieu_xyz @tante
Also, remember that "here" is limited not only by the people you follow and the instances federated with yours, but also by the languages that you speak.

Communities of the fediverse based on languages other than English may have different "folklore" and different vibes.

Back in 2008 when I used Friendfeed a lot (before it was bought and killed by Facebook), people from the English speaking community often thought that they were the only big community of that social network. But actually the language most spoken on Friendfeed was Persian, and I think Italian came second. English speakers only saw a fragment of that network.
