Thinking of starting a personal #blog. I have the one on living with #MultipleDisabilities, but it's specific to that topic and not just for me. I use #WordPress for that blog, but now that I'm getting into the #fediverse, I'm curious if there are any platforms that are #accessible and federate. I know WordPress has a plugin now for this, but I can't afford a paid plan to be able to install plugins. Also curious what other #accessible and free #blogging platforms are out there. Any suggestions?
@Laniebird91 really interesting questions that I've also been planning on researching so I'll be intrigued by the answers
@Laniebird91 I know about Friendica, it's like Mastodon but for bigger blog posts. Don't know about accessible clients for it, though.
@Laniebird91 Well, there’s WriteFreely? It federates, though I haven’t done much experimenting with it nor with its accessibility: https://writefreely.org/
WriteFreely

Minimalist, federated, self-hosted blogging platform.

WriteFreely
@krisnelson @Laniebird91 It's very accessible, I can tell you that much. I have played with the demo.
@cambridgeport90 @krisnelson Checking it out now. It looks like you can join a community if you don't want to or can't self-host and can't afford to pay, so I just need to figure out which one would be best. Not a lot of information on any of the available ones.

@Laniebird91 @cambridgeport90 Yes, if you don’t just pay for the flagship one, it seems little tricky to pick a community for WriteFreely—even when I go to their sites, many don’t have much of anything in their “about” section so how can you know their reliability, ethos, etc.? I did find a longer list here with user numbers and similar: https://the-federation.info/platform/40

But still, I’m not really sure how to judge the communities without knowing someone there? #WriteFreely

@krisnelson @Laniebird91 One of the problems with the fediverse is the lack of information around most communities; despite how long the concept has been around, seemingly, some things don't change.
@Laniebird91 Fellow multiple disabilities person here, hi. I have a blog on wordpress.com that I haven't touched in years, so can't help. I just wanted to let you know I exist if that makes sense.
@ladymunch That totally makes sense! It's always great to connect with others who have multiple disabilities! I have a few online groups on multiple platforms if you want to connect with others. No pressure. Just thought you might be interested :)
@Laniebird91 Thank you! I'd be interested to check them out.
@ladymunch The blog linked in my profile used to have a page with the list of groups but it's kind of a mess right now, so it might be easier for me to just tell you about the groups. There are groups on Clubhouse, Discord, Facebook, and a mailing list. I'm also always open to creating more on other platforms. I also created the multiple disabilities Guppe group on Mastodon for communicating with other followers of the group. Which ones do you think you'd be interested in?
@Laniebird91 The masto and facebook groups would work best for me.
@ladymunch Okay, for the Mastodon one, just add @multipledisabilities to your post when you want to talk to others in the group and follow it to see posts. Not many people there now but hoping it will grow. For the Facebook one, request to join at https://www.facebook.com/groups/694279880927539.
Multiple Disabilities Peer to Peer Support Group | Facebook

Please like and comment “Agree” to this! You MUST have more than one disability, to join this group. That’s the sole requirement. Rules: 1. No insulting anyone, on anything. One warning, then...

@Laniebird91 @multipledisabilities Thank you! I'll do that!
@ladymunch @multipledisabilities Great! If you don't mind me asking, what disabilities do you have? For me it's total blindness, autism, lots of chronic illnesses, and anxiety.
@Laniebird91 @multipledisabilities I'm totally blind too and have chronic illnesses myself. Fibromyalgia mental health issues, I'm hard of hearing. Many other little things that just add up to being a pain. I use a wheelchair to get around.
