A Mexican friend was joking about a NAFTA #railway the other day. Well that’s actually a thing now!
In March 2021, Canadian Pacific (CP) announced it was planning to purchase Kansas City Southern (KCS) and merge the two under Canadian management. KCS accepted the deal in September 2021 and the two officially merged in April 2023 to form Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited ( #CPKC ).

#CPKC is the only #railway with trackage rights linking Canada, Mexico, and the United States under one railway company. That’s over 32,000 km of trackage across three countries!

Quite a remarkable move, and something that’ll compete with the railway titans #UnionPacific (UP) and #BNSF. UP is already making moves to partner with #Ferromex , the largest freight railway company in Mexico, to streamline the transfer of cargo across the U.S.-Mexico border in order to compete with CPKC.
