Target becomes latest company to suffer backlash for LGBTQ+ support, pulls some Pride month clothing

Target is removing certain items from its stores and making other changes to its LGBTQ+ merchandise nationwide ahead of Pride month, after an intense backlash from some customers including violent confrontations with its workers. Target declined to confirm which items it was removing but among the ones that garnered the most attention were “tuck friendly” adult women’s swimsuits that allow trans women who have not had gender-affirming operations to conceal their private parts. Designs by Abprallen, a London-based company which designs and sells occult- and satanic-themed LGBTQ+ clothing and accessories, have also sparked a backlash.

@parkermolloy the capitalists do not care if we fall to fascism. they probably think it's better for their bottom line.
@editor
I can't speak for all captalists, but I think bigotry and outright fascism are evil and bad for the bottom line, which is another way of saying bad for generating wealth and prosperity.
@parkermolloy
@cgervasi for capitalists, lighting the planet on fire was worth it. slavery was worth it. genocide of native people was worth it - for them.
@editor This is categorically incorrect. Respecting people's right to own means of production means not allowing people set other people's stuff on fire. The right to own things applies to people's own lives and labor and freedom to live as they choose. By its nature it's against stealing or trashing people's stuff, as in the first nations of North America or contributing to climate change without paying to clean up the mess you make.

@cgervasi They have made trillions upon trillions of dollars and they have nott cleaned up jack shit, and they won't. Reparations for slavery - $0. Reparations for genocide - $0. Reparations for destroying the planet - $0.

I'm not talking about what SHOULD happen. I'm talking about what is happening.

@editor Slavery, genocide, and other human horrors predate private ownership of production. They've massively decreased. Cleaning up those things is difficult because the perpetrators and victims are dead. But we now live in a world where most people consider those things horrific, and people have moved on to reducing other horrors like domestic violence and animal cruelty. I think this progress is at least partly related to capitalism, and the explosion in prosperity is directly caused by it.
