A referendum on 22nd May 2015 amended the Constitution of Ireland to provide that marriage is recognised irrespective of the sex of the partners. The amendment was approved by 62%-38% of the voters.

@ToniScott And the Irish people, particularly the young, themselves. A very large element of the win was a bottom up campaign by young people convincing older people they know that the change was needed.
