If you're not here or don't hear about Oregon politics: It's wild. GOP lawmakers in Oregon's Senate have been on a walkout to prevent abortion protections and other Democratic priorities from passing. But Oregon voters passed a ballot measure last year making any legislator that does this ineligible to run again.

So now ten (TEN) state senators have made themselves lame ducks, in the hopes that they will get rescued by a lawsuit against the measure. https://oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2023/05/18/one-third-of-oregon-senate-now-ineligible-for-another-term-as-republican-walkout-continues/

One-third of Oregon Senate now ineligible for another term as Republican walkout continues – Oregon Capital Chronicle

All but three Republicans in the Oregon state Senate have now made themselves ineligible to serve another term.

Oregon Capital Chronicle
@ianrosewrites The only way it could get any better is if any of now-lame GQP Senators voted for the measure they're now suing against.
Texas House Democrats' walkout: Breaking quorum explained

Democrats are preventing the Texas House from having enough members to pass legislation. We explain what that means, what options Republicans have and what’s in the voting bills Democrats oppose.

@ianrosewrites
I vaguely recall something about the republicans in Oregon passing that measure to spite democrats? Is that the context?
@ianrosewrites I have not lived in Oregon in many years, but I still remember vividly when Wayne Morse lost his Senate seat to Bob Packwood, of all people, so nothing about Oregon politics will ever surprise me again.
@stevesplace @ianrosewrites well lets hope it doesnt go to the trump pet court of bribes, otherwise known as the scotus
@ianrosewrites Rock On Dems… get those lame duck GOPs…..replace with working and aware Dems!!!
@ianrosewrites '“Part of why I’m so deeply saddened is because I really truly believe in democracy, and I do feel like I’m watching with the front row seat a fracture in that democracy,” Lieber said. “No one gets everything they want in a democracy either. So when you have a minority who wants to veto the majority rule, it undermines the faith in democracy and the stability of our state.”
@ianrosewrites May this be the first of many unpleasant surprises for their tiny, malevolent brains.
@ianrosewrites more lessons in how not to do democracy from the US 🙄
@ianrosewrites As a voting Oregonian please let that door hit them in their asses! These republicans are vile pieces of shit!

@ianrosewrites 😲

The fact that it's a voter sanctioned law that the members have to be present for votes, is it likely to get overturned in the courts? As an Australian, I wish we had a similar law in our Federal and State houses - so many elected "reps" fail to #dothejob. And finger crossed these "activist abstainers" fail to be rescued.

@crunchysteve @ianrosewrites not unless the Supremes buy into the latest right wing theory: that state legislatures have sovereignty over the people of the states.
@ianrosewrites I’m sure there’s plenty more corrupt mediocrity where they came from.

Wilhoit's law
Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

@ianrosewrites Lets Go Morons! (Bam Bam Bam). Let's Go Morons! (Bam Bam Bam.)

(But isn't that the GOP platform?)

@ianrosewrites

Oregon is my home state. I grew up in one of the rural parts, which I still call Redneckistan.

I refer to leaving Oregon as an escape for good reason.

Nice to see these twerps are going to be held accountable.
