I'm reading #ThomasHardy right now. #ClassicBooks are a window into the times. They also reveal nuances in #CommunicationStyles of the time. I ran across an excerpt which piqued my interest in modern #communications. I wonder how much #NonverbalCommunication we lose nowadays because of #SocialMedia, #Texting, etc? How many more conversations nowadays are misinterpreted because of the missing factor of non-verbal communication? #Miscommunication #ModernCommunication #ReadingCommunity
Here's the excerpt: "He was a stout florid man about forty years of age, who surveyed people up and down when first making their acquaintance, and generally smiled at the horizon or other distant object during conversations with friends, walking about with a steady sway, and turning out his toes very considerably." -- from "Under the Greenwood Tree" by Thomas Hardy.
You see so much when interacting with someone in person. Things unsaid become apparent or at least a flag is thrown up. It would be a tragedy if this art were lost to the quick, rough & tumble of digital communication.
