Attached: 1 image This Monday (15 May) will mark 75 years since the Nakba, when over 500 Palestinian communities were forcibly depopulated during the creation of the Israeli state. To mark the occasion, we have re-launched #PalOpenMaps with a bunch of new features https://palopenmaps.org/en/ 1/6

First, we have improved the quality and quantity of data on individual towns and villages, with links to other great resources including Palestine Remembered, @Zochrot, @PalStudies Encyclopedia of the Palestinian Question, and @AUB_Lebanon's Palestinian Oral History Archive
2/7
Second, you can now share the URL for any individual historical locality and automatically get an embedded map when you share it on most social platforms (eg. sharing your personal #Nakba stories), like this for the village of #Safad
https://palopenmaps.org/en/maps/safad

Safad - Palestine Open Maps

Explore, search and download historical maps and spatial data on Palestine

Third, almost everything on the site is now in Arabic as well as English. If you're browsing in English, just click the ع icon in the top-right corner to switch language. Here's #Safad again in Arabic

صفد - خَرائط فلسطين المَفتوحة

استكشِف/ي وتصفّح/ي وحمّل/ي خرائط وبيانات مَكانيّة عَن فلسطين

Fourth, we have added a new 1940s overlay map layer which includes many of the features of the 1:20,000 Survey of Palestine map series from the end of the British Mandate. (Note: This is a work in progress via mapathons organised by @majdal)

Finally, we've added an important new historical aerial imagery layer, based on British RAF surveys of #Palestine from 1944 to 1948. (Note: These images aren't currently available to us at their highest resolution. Please DM me if you can help us get them!)

And now... Your treat for reading to the end of the thread... A copy of the master CSV with the whole of the current #PalOpenMaps localities database (Note: This is a work in progress based on many sources)
