Westland SA.341B Gazelle AH.1, Army Air Corps The Gazelle was built under a joint production agreement with Aerospatiale. Using a 'fenestron', or shrouded tail rotor, this advanced design served the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines, in communications, battlefield reconnaissance, training and light attack roles. This restored example is seen at the East Midlands Aeropark at East Midlands International Airport. #Aerospatiale #Westland #helicopter, #fenestron #tailrotor #trainer, #reconnaissance #attack #rotorcraft #avgeek #aviation #museum #EastMidlands #EastMidlandsInternationalAirport #EMIA #airport #RoyalNavy #RoyalAirForce #ArmyAirCorps #SA341 #Gazelle

I used to work on those as an apprentice. Also worked on Scout/Wasp, Lynx, Puma, Wessex, Sea King and SRN5 hovercraft.

One of the first operational Pumas came in for a ‘full service’. It was stripped down, parts replaced and put back together. Problem was, there was an almighty stink coming from inside the aircraft (it really was rank). It was stripped right back to the airframe to try and discover where malodour was coming from.
Behind one of the bulkheads a sick bag was discovered with a green, fury, mouldy ‘stool’ in it. Apparently a boot neck couldn’t wait so deposited his ‘load’ in the bag and stuffed it behind a bulkhead without telling anyone.

We nicknamed the aircraft the ‘Poohma’ after that.

@partnumber2 Thanks for that, DB ! Here's a Gazelle I flew in......
