@Jyoti An overlooked classic. No Emmys — outrageous.

@CultureDesk

Because geek culture is always ignored unless it can be milked dry for the mainstream like Big Bang Theory.

:-/

@Jyoti Even with the brilliant stories and acting (and the magnificence of Lee Pace). Though a lot of our tech-y friends who would definitely like it have never heard of it, which suggests maybe it wasn't reaching the right people.

@CultureDesk

THIS IS NOW YOUR MISSION!

spread the gospel of #HaltAndCatchFire to every lil geek out there!

@Jyoti @CultureDesk BBT was truly the worst. It was more what Boomers thought nerds were like instead of reality. Found Community, IT Crowd and Silicon Valley resonated a lot more.

@jbwharris @CultureDesk

Still does my nut in that Linehan is one of the UK's major transphobes. Such a fucking horrible, horrible person.

What annoyed me most about BBT is the things they got WRONG. They're meant to be pedantic geeks but it's obvious the writers were not.

@Jyoti @CultureDesk Huh, I didn’t know that about him. I feel like I kinda enjoyed IT Crowd in a vacuum in a way, after the fact, so knew little about it aside from the main actors

@jbwharris @CultureDesk

Yeah, he's not even an average transphobe, he revels in it. A truly hateful person.

@Jyoti @CultureDesk I once saw a deep dive into BBT about how the show spent a lot of time punching down at nerd culture instead of being part of it. I find my enduring memory was how the President of a previous company kinda made Sheldon the mascot of the development department. He thought the show was hilarious, while at the same time not being a tech nerd himself, he was more of a sales/accounting guy.

@jbwharris @CultureDesk

I have to be careful here as the last time I criticised BBT for being fake geek, I got leapt on by a load of geeks who love it.

Soooo... to each their own!

But def not my cup of tea.

@Jyoti Might be worth a rewatch for me. It's perfect from the first episode until the very end.

@driftwood

I'm waiting for the perfect person for a rewatch. If that doesn't happen before the tenth anniversary, that's when I'll next re-watch it.

@Jyoti Whoa didn't realize it's been 9 years. You still have time!

It's kinda crazy how this show flew under the radar for lots of people, but everyone that's seen it absolutely loves it. Really is incredible.

@driftwood

I'll die proudly on the #HACF hill.

NO REGRETS

@Jyoti “let me start by asking you a question”
@bobthomson70 @Jyoti Chills. Love that line!
@driftwood @Jyoti finale made me grin :)

@bobthomson70 @driftwood

It was a fucking ROLLERCOASTER.

@Jyoti @driftwood what C4 need to do now is get You're the Worst on there and bring that more to the UK than the measly S1/2 on that Five Star channel did - much as it got me into it enough to download the rest of that classic anti-Friends dramedy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgV6gzYONw4&t=119s
you're the worst but it's only the parts i still quote

YouTube

@bobthomson70 @driftwood

Email them! You never know!

@Jyoti @driftwood looks like their contact form is geared around UK based folks which is quite reasonable of course but not me :)

@bobthomson70

Just say BLOODY ROADS and TERRIBLE WEATHER, INNIT and you'll be fine.

@Jyoti I'm from Glasgow, that is just way too polite and non-sweary to be believed 😅
@Jyoti Maybe this will help get this podcast finished. https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tttgyttt

@Jyoti That is by far the best show that I keep forgetting exists. They got all the details from the era right. Netflix used to have it in the States, but it's gone now. JustWatch says it's not available for streaming, just buying. |sad face|

@corbden

two words:

SPALDING GRAY

when that ref popped up, I nearly wept.

@Jyoti I had no idea. Everyone else knows so much more stuff than me!

@corbden

Nah, we all know different stuff, which is as it should be or the world would be VERY dull.

@Jyoti I’ve got to finish this show. I did S1, then kinda lost momentum and very kept up. Have you watched For All Mankind? Kinda similar alt-history vibe of a show.

@jbwharris

FAM (ehehe) does approach HACF but it hasn't got the weight of later series. No spoilers from me but.... well, I cried and had to go to bed for a day.

@Jyoti @CultureDesk heard the name before, but never knew what it was about. Added to watchlist👍

@Jyoti just finished my third rewatch of this series, and it resonates more every go around

“Computers aren’t the Thing, they’re the thing that gets us to the Thing” lives in my head permanently

@enron

I guess I will start a rewatch when able to take Ryan Ray emotionally again. I could not cope at the moment. 😢

@enron @Jyoti Every time I watch that show I get inspired to make something cool. Every. Single. Time.

@mos_8502 @enron

Great art inspires more great art. It's like fission.

@Jyoti I wish it would get a complete blu-ray release! I’m so glad they let it grow beyond “Mad Men in the 80s” and centered the women’s stories more. One of my all-time faves.

@daniel

I'm not gonna rest until there's a new series! As a Trekkie, I know the power of fandom. 🙂

And yes to the Blu-ray!
