Curious what happens when your lease expires...
@paulasadoorian sending my trained pigeon to fetch me an IP right now
@paulasadoorian
You can keep the IP but you will be no longer welcomed and have to come back for another.
@paulasadoorian
All leases will need to expire at the same time. And a new poster needs to be put up.

@paulasadoorian

For a world without leases, use slaac! 😉

@tschaefer @paulasadoorian you can just give them an entire /64 and never have to worry about it again!
@paulasadoorian Tree DHCP: the new version of peg DHCP
@paulasadoorian This is so much better than my Raspberry Pi:)
@paulasadoorian I don't see any L2 protections here. Anybody could just staple their own DHCP server on top of this one. smh.
@paulasadoorian your local lineman drives to your house and screams your new IP at you, reminding you never to staple objects to utility poles. the lineman then proceeds to send pictures to all your contacts of torn up legs due to protruding staples and nails.
@paulasadoorian https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc2322 Pegs are sturdier and can be used again.
RFC 2322: Management of IP numbers by peg-dhcp

This RFC describes a protocol to dynamically hand out ip-numbers on field networks and small events that don't necessarily have a clear organisational body. This memo provides information for the Internet community. It does not specify an Internet standard of any kind.
